Sanjay Subramanyam sang at Mangala Mantapa, NMKRV Women’s College, Jayanagar, Bangalore on Saturday, 10th June 2006. He was accompanied by Nagai Muralidharan on the violin, Guruvayur Dorai on the mridangam and Rajasekharan on the Morsing. Sanjay always delivers but what was special about this concert was the top class artists who accompanied him and made the concert, one that would stay in listeners’ minds for a long time to come. All in all, it was one of the best concerts I have heard in recent times.
Guruvayur Dorai on the mridangam was just too good. Age doesn’t seem to mellow him down at all. At 71, he is still one of the best mridangam artists around. One could see how one could play soothingly for songs, yet show one’s intelligence through calculations in the way he accompanied Sanjay.
