Did not know your brother gives concerts. Inform us if he is performing in Bangalore. By the way do you also practice ?
Sure Jayan .. will inform you.
I play the mridangam.
too good buddy!.. will take the recordings from you…
sure
defly a nice list. to take up some thing like ‘srI rAjagOpAla’ for main needs courage. i am sure, he did a good job.
i decided against this concert and went to Smt R Vedavalli’s presentation, for two reason:
a. i started from IITM only around 6:20 and would hence only for your bro’s pavamana
b. the violinst at the concert of your bro, is just sick. i couldnt tolerate him the last time i heard him play for somebody. He was just lifeless on stage on that occasion.
Vedavalli mami treated me with Ahiri navAvarNam and later there was good prasadam (sundal and sweet) and tamboolam and a sri chakram as well.
Bharath,
It was just about the sundal and sweet, you could have told me 😉 … I could have kept some ready for you. Just kidding … glad that you went to hear Ahiri and Vedavalli mami sang Ahiri that day.
Well incidentally, the violinist played well in the concert that day. This is the first time I am hearing him and I was kind of impressed with his performance on that day. The only glitch though was that he seemed to have practised the raga alapanas to last for 10 minutes each. Even though my brother sang the one of the alapanas only for 5 minutes to adjust to the time prescribed for the concert, the violinist still played his alapana for 10 minutes.
Ram
The sundal and sweet werent the only things which dragged me to Vedavalli mami’s concert.
10 minute AlApanais are what the violinst knows to play. The last occasion, i heard him, the vocalist sang a 3 minute kalyANI while this guy played for 10 min and the vocalists sang a 7 minute bhairavi while this guy played for 12 min. And all phrases were repetitive and there was no bhavam at all.
