If there was one thing that was unsatisfactory in this good concert, it was the poor turnout. The maximum number of people in the hall at any time including the artists and the guy who handled the mic/speakers was 23. The hall itself was very small but still looked deserted.
Can you tell me how this vocalist sings- vis-a-vis- Voice quality, sahitya claruty, sruti suddam and manodharmam would be some dimensions I would consider in evaluating a performance. The chosen kritthis are rare and it is most definitely an unusal list for a concert. I was also interested in knowing whcih padaandram the vocalist belongs to. Who is her guru etc.
Please reply as it would help me in scheduling my music season program in December.
Hi Rajeev,
I would rate her very high on all the parameters you have mentioned in your comment. Her raga alapanas are also detailed and well rendered. But I would still suggest you hear a couple of concerts or audio releases of hers if possible before deciding as you might have preferences different from mine. I have also not heard her a lot, so can’t say she whether she sings consistently with high quality stuff always. As for patanthatam, she is a student of Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman, if I am not mistaken.

Sankari Krishnan has all the ingredients required for an excellent performer viz pantanthara shuddham, sahitya shuddham, good voice, sruthi shuddam, manodharma etc u name it she has it all. Do listen to her recent cd release, Yadukulakamboji – An Enigmatic raga (2 cds consisting on 14 songs all in the same raga by different composers). The handling of this raga requires extraordinary vidwat and maturity. Recently, about 2 weeks back THE HINDU carried an eloquent review in their Friday Feature.
listened to her Karaharapria a few minutes back at SVBC channel3th Jan 2011
Very majestic, She is presently singing 1910hrs..Sreenivasa Thiruvengadamudaiyan hamsanandi quite Bhavapoorna and melodious,’.Ravi, Bangalore.
