Dhoom 2 – Review

If you go to the movie looking for some non-stop action, you might mostly end up disappointed. After all, Dhoom 2 is a bollywood movie and how can a bollywood movie that is looking to be a hit do without songs? And it is the songs that come in all sorts of odd places and start playing spoilsport. Many parts of the movie just drag on to add to the woes. There are a few good sequences …. for example the train robbery scene at the start, Hrithik’s escape after he commits the theft in the museum and the modus operandi of the theft itself.

I think Dhoom 2 in its present form might have been a total disaster had it not been for Hrithik Roshan. Who knows … it might still end up as one. Without Hrithik, it would have been kind of difficult to sit through those scenes that seem to just drag on endlessly and those songs that have such an ordinary music that even dolby digital can’t do anything. Hrithik simply overshadows Abhishek who just doesn’t look capable enough to match him in anything. I was just thinking in the movie hall that the director and his crew had made a good decision not to bring Hrithik and Abhishek together in any of the songs, when this song suddenly came up that has both of them. Abhishek looks just short of stupid in it. He really needs to somehow improve his dancing skills. They are woefully inadequate.

Bipasha Basu has been totally wasted … her presence in the second half seems to be just to give Uday Chopra some female company he is badly in search of. Aishwarya Rai at least has some role to be played in the movie. That being said, Uday has acted well I must say. Some of his day-dreaming scenes that appear on screen whenever he meets Bipasha are really funny.

About the story …. well I am not going to play spoilsport by revealing whatever little is there of it. If you like Hrithik, you should just go and watch this movie …. and thats probably all that is there to it too.

ummm…i beg to differ…a bollywood movie like dhoom must have songs to increase its suaveness

There is nothing wrong with having songs as long as they fit well into the scheme of things. It is problematic if they appear here and there just for the sake of their inclusion.

Dhoom 2 is a total disappointment….unless u r a diehard Hrithik fan … The only alive character in this movie is HRITHIK … Hrithik totally overshadows Junior BACHAN…Irritating Uday Chopra…Bomb shell Bips and Artificial Ash….

This movie lacks the basic script…No story …total 2.5 hrs crap….This movie lacks the grip than original Dhoom….

I have to agree with all of your comments, I saw the movie last night after waiting the whole of my first college semester. This movie has really disapointed me, I don’t know if I had extreme expectations, but truthfully it just sucked. I don’t know if people will agree with me, but I thought Ash was HOT, she pulled off every dress in that movie. Her lost pounds are surely to be noiced. And she was probably the reson I was awake throughout the movie and oh yeah, definitely, Hrithik should not be overseen, he really surprises me in every movie. The guy has talent people. He really does. No one should disagree with that. All props/cudos to Hrithik and all eyes to Ash.

And as a last note… what is up with Bollywood with continous disappointments…first Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna which just would not allow you to leave the theater then Don, i have no idea what was going on there and then NOW Dhoom2…

I think the Movie was superb in terms of bollywood action flick… and i dont think the songs were out of squence… i mean the opening song with hrithikz intro was just superbbbbbbb and his moves man… ahhh they just the breath out of u…. its true hrithik overshowed everyone in the movie… but i think he did a superb job and the movie was tonnes better then the first one because… this one didnt have the equal chances from the cops and the theif like dhoom 1…and it the ending it was unpredictable.. seriously no one would have thought that it wud end like the way it did.. after the shooting… overall i found the movie breathless and tonnes better then dhom1 and way better then don!!….and as for hrithik i dont think anyone but himself can match him.. because from a loverboy to a retardted kid to a superhero and frm there to a villian.. only hrithik can do it!!! – He just rocks my socks!!!!!!!!!

After reading this review I think I may not see the movie after all. I was sort of looking forward to it as I enjoyed the first Dhoom.

That is a good review, Hrithik did very well and I was impressed even though I’m not usually a fan. But the movie overall was pathetic, it was too distracted from the plot, trying to sell the girls instead of the story. It had potential but Abhishek’s role was very off-putting they totally messed him up, I usually like him. Bipasha as you said was wasted. Uday Chopra was funny. I would un-watch the 1st half of the movie if I could, 2nd half was still bearable.

Who did the music for this movie?

  9. Ram Avatar

I think Pritam is the music director …. the same guy who put music for Dhoom also.

really? pathetic. I liked the music of Dhoom but this was kinda unbearable. I wonder what happened… :-S
