Dhoom 2 – Review

If you go to the movie looking for some non-stop action, you might mostly end up disappointed. After all, Dhoom 2 is a bollywood movie and how can a bollywood movie that is looking to be a hit do without songs? And it is the songs that come in all sorts of odd places and start playing spoilsport. Many parts of the movie just drag on to add to the woes. There are a few good sequences …. for example the train robbery scene at the start, Hrithik’s escape after he commits the theft in the museum and the modus operandi of the theft itself.

I think Dhoom 2 in its present form might have been a total disaster had it not been for Hrithik Roshan. Who knows … it might still end up as one. Without Hrithik, it would have been kind of difficult to sit through those scenes that seem to just drag on endlessly and those songs that have such an ordinary music that even dolby digital can’t do anything. Hrithik simply overshadows Abhishek who just doesn’t look capable enough to match him in anything. I was just thinking in the movie hall that the director and his crew had made a good decision not to bring Hrithik and Abhishek together in any of the songs, when this song suddenly came up that has both of them. Abhishek looks just short of stupid in it. He really needs to somehow improve his dancing skills. They are woefully inadequate.

Bipasha Basu has been totally wasted … her presence in the second half seems to be just to give Uday Chopra some female company he is badly in search of. Aishwarya Rai at least has some role to be played in the movie. That being said, Uday has acted well I must say. Some of his day-dreaming scenes that appear on screen whenever he meets Bipasha are really funny.

About the story …. well I am not going to play spoilsport by revealing whatever little is there of it. If you like Hrithik, you should just go and watch this movie …. and thats probably all that is there to it too.

I just watched Dhoom…and I can say it is nothing compared to Dhoom1. The director could show Ash just beautiful, not bold…She couldn’t live upto the mark of a bold girl, with her American accent. Stunts defy the gravity and the laws of physics….right from the start when Hrithik uses just a skiing board to shield himself from the bullets…(Oh man, he covers just his face with it, I wonder why the shooter didn’t aim at other parts of his body, inspite of him being the Queen’s body guard). All the stunts are useless..All the bad guys together couldn’t shoot Abhishek, but he playfully shoots all of them…The movie is just a waste of money…I am a fan of Ash, but she just cannot do these bold rules…Bipashu was good as a cop…even she is wasted in the second half..Hrithik is the only saving grace.

well most of the bollywood films are bullshit to the core!
there’s nothing in the movie other than costumes, skin, muscles, some junk actions etc etc…. but still the hype is ……….
these bollwood movies are made to convert black money to white. even it runs for a weeks across the country and some internation mkt, thats enough the producer will get back his money in white.

todays movies are more of shit, they just overkill the movie with technology, rememeber good old movies were script/drama/story line was strong and technology was so so… now it hs become the other way… only technology and nothing else, its like watching games 🙂

I loved Dhoom 2, Hrithik looked totally amazing and his acting was brilliant as always. Hrithik stole the show definetly.

Hrithik was very good. Honestly, I loved the eye candy, think both girls look stunning. The movie itself was so over the top, that it took away from it all. The stunts are better than any bollywood film to date, but that doesn’t mean they were good. they were crazy and defied all laws of science. It’s fine to have a few of those, but when you go from scene to scene, and just shake your head at how crazy the scenes are, it takes away from the movie. the dancing was great, the songs are ok, think all the actors were ok, and only Hrithik was worth watching and actually admiring. If he weren’t in the movie, it would probably have been just as bad as any other indian action flick. both Don and Dhoom 2 were off-the-wall stupid, but they’re still worth watching because of the entertainment value.

Dhoom 2 was exellent, i enjoyed watching it, watched it twice already, planning to watch it again next week. Hrithik has done it again after krrish, only to prove he does not need his dad, Hrithik and Ash made the best couple ever seen in bollywood!

“We are living in a consumer economy where every thing is commoditized, including cinema. Dhoom 2 is not supposed to stimulate the cerebrum at all. It is targeted (like Krrish!) at Bournvita drinking kids who would like to grow muscles like Hrithik “Uncle” or win pageants like Ash “Aunty”(kids for that matter are a very powerful consumer group). It’s plain business not cinema. Good cinema apparently does not have a market (at least in India) to make it economically viable. So as long as the masses are lapping up the kitsch laden movies and the movie makers are raking in the moolah, this will continue. Needless to mention this is an effect of Hollywood which has marginalized cinema from the rest of the world (Europe, Asia etc.). If you want good cinema, go and spend your money on the movies by independent and amateur directors and not the big production houses (not a thumb’s rule, but often is the case). Patronizing good cinema is the only way to promote it.”—-unknown source
