Pain and suffering

There is a person who used to cause me a lot of hurt. Inflicting pain through caustic language. Sometimes it would get very difficult for me to handle. I would get entangled and suffer.

As I was trying to work my way out of this, I read this old saying:

“Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional”.

And then this one by Ramana Maharshi:

“Find out who is it that suffers”.

I started operating from my awareness. I stopped getting entangled.
I cannot tell you how much this has helped me and some of the people I coach.

What about you? Does reading this change anything for you?
